Project summary:
TAFE NSW- New England Institute, Armidale Campus, Business and Creative Services Faculty. Provide workplace based training in Transport & Distribution (Warehousing & Storage) to trainees and students across all industries and in many locations in Eastern Australia.
Train Teachers and Managers to deliver e-learning based on competencies TDTO2 Transport & Distribution (Warehousing & Storage) and provide mentoring of TAFE staff in developing on line and other e-learning products and the creation & facilitation of e-learning and distance education.
Examine, evaluate and test products for suitability for e-learning, including motivating and encouraging interaction from students and trainee.. Examine the potential of sharing resources within TAFE and with industry.

Background to the project:
The purpose for this project is to develop a product that will provide training to students and trainees who have not access to face to face teaching and workplace based training. To achieve this we need trained staff who adequately resourced to deliver the product.
The project will build onto the existing learning program by providing a virtual classroom / workplace even though the actual classroom / workplace may be interstate. Providing real time activities, immediate feedback potential. Ability to be in contact with more than one student / trainee at a time, eg “chat room”, “white board”, virtual conference room” and etc.
Current problems that will be addressed cover paper based delivery, traveling time / accommodation for the teacher, better coverage of project work by student / trainee (at present this done by e-mail) and more efficient use of time and effective contact and follow up activities.
Participants will be up skilled to provide greater flexibility in delivery / appropriate teaching methods, immediate feedback, increasing productivity and developing more learning products.

Proposed project outcomes:
  • TAFE Teachers with increased knowledge, skills and understanding of e-learning, providing greater flexibility and producing increases in productivity in industry and TAFE.
  • Increased equity to learning opportunities by students / trainees (regardless of their location) wishing to undertake and obtaining education in Transport & Distribution.
  • Reduction of costs (eg travel, accommodation and etc) in the delivery of training.
  • Greater and more efficient use of e-learning resources. and technology.
  • Time efficiencies, for RTO, trainee / student and employer (industry)

Benefits to client group:
Our clients will learn to place theory with customised “real life” operational and organisational systems used in their workplace. They will be able to use their employer’s policies & procedures, documentation, IT systems, products, organizational structure and etc to gain a very high level of practical knowledge, appreciation and best practice best suited to their workplace and industry. Due to the advances to be made in time efficiencies and more efficient use of technology. New activities will include workplace projects and presentations, online learning, submissions of assignments, chat rooms, white boards, teleconferencing, virtual conference room, use of tool boxes and mobile phones.
Accessibility to e-learning will be by home / workplace computers and the new activities listed above. This will be supported by the RTO and the employer when the trainee / student is gaining practical experience and evaluating the results of the “real life” operational and organizational activities of the workplace. The different learning needs will be addressed by the different types of e-learning available eg, purely on line, Blended learning, Synchronous, asynchronous, computer based (CD-ROM). Support for people with different circumstances will be by phone, fax, e-mail (including after hours), and the new activities listed above, plus on line learning repositories.
The client group will be asked to participate in entry and exit surveys, continual feedback sessions and reviews.

Evaluation strategies:
Evaluation will be by 10 measurable outcomes eg improved retention rates, early completions, survey results, feedback (including benefits, problems & ideas), number & types of contacts ,new business, repeat business, client / industry client & focus groups, statistic and, trends,
This will be supported by responses and reactions to presentation, advertising, meeting of student / trainee groups, industry groups and employer groups. Enquiries at trade shows, from marketing / promotions, word of mouth (generated by previous or existing clients), student / trainee motivation & involvement

We are capturing our learning via:
· First questionnaire based on their understanding of e-learning to be completed on Induction day. Last questionnaire to be completed at the conclusion of the third workshop which will capture the knowledge acquired.
· Summaries / reviews provided by team member (in writing and verbally) at the beginning of workshops 1, 2 &3 plus the review / debriefing session to be held on the completion of the pilot program.
· Post pilot program presentation by each team member, plus evaluation forms.
· Contact calls by Trainer / Lecturer or Facilitator to team members between workshops.
· Contact calls and meetings between team members by speaker phone, e-mail teleconferencing and trialing new (to the team) technology such as virtual conferencing, tools boxes &etc. (this will also test their e-learning skills)
· Development of model documents, forms and programs.
· Case studies / projects and input into network groups.
· Using EdNA Groups.

We hope to share our learning via:
· Active participation in the NSW learnscope EdNA group, including participant communication across teams, Links to other EdNA groups , monthly newsletter, glossary of useful articles, News highlights, opportunities & reminder and result.
· Active participation in National Framework events, using professional development, products & resources, support networks, development of new innovation methods of e-learning delivery.

We’ll connect with others via:
· Reports to faculty management on a monthly basis, meetings held by our Teaching and Learning networks (not only in our subject area but throughout the faculty and the New England Institute) also on a monthly basis. Also staff meetings and staff development
· Presentations and workshops will be undertaken and conducted with Industry, Employer, Business and Training groups and networks. At the workplace, at conventions, trade shows. Forming strategic alliances with these groups for the purpose of sharing information and resources.
